After rescuing the sloths, our beloved Central Florida Zoo suddenly needed extra resources to maintain its services and accreditation. Jason answered the call.

  • Sponsored SB 1550 (2023), requiring PBMs to hold a certificate of authority under the Florida Insurance Code, mandating manufacturer disclosure of large wholesale-price increases, and adding anti-steering protections so patients aren't forced into PBM-affiliated mail-order pharmacies.
  • Protected patient choice for independent pharmacies in Sanford, Lake Mary, and Oviedo, keeping neighborhood pharmacists in the network.
  • In 2026, he set aside his own follow-up PBM bill late in the session to preserve a stopgap funding measure of nearly $31 million for Florida's AIDS Drug Assistance Program, keeping roughly 18,000 people from losing access to high-cost HIV medication.

Fighting The Opioid Crisis.

The opioid epidemic has torn through Seminole and Orange counties for too long. Jason is pairing tough-on-crime laws with expanded recovery resources to save lives.

Over six budget years, Jason has directed more than $27.5 million to prevention, treatment, and recovery programs serving District 10, from care coordination for people in crisis to prevention programs that reach kids before addiction starts.

  • Secured Local Funding Initiative Requests including the Hope & Healing Center ($3.3M), Project Opioid ($2.05M), and the Orlando Health Opioid Navigator ($500K), which connects patients to treatment after discharge, serving nearly 1,000 people in District 10.
  • Sponsored SB 190 (2022), adding enhanced penalties for distributing controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a treatment facility, recovery residence, or clinic.
  • Sponsored SB 280 (2023), expanding murder liability for dealers whose drugs cause a fatal overdose, with tougher penalties for repeat offenders.

Expanding Mental Health Resources.

Too many families hit a wall when they try to get mental health care: coverage they can't understand and clinics they can't afford. Jason has worked to knock that wall down, on both the insurance side and the ground level.

His record earned him the Florida Mental Health Advocacy Coalition's 2022 Legislator of the Year award, and he followed it up by funding a brand-new free clinic right here in Seminole County.

  • Sponsored SB 1024 (2021), Increasing Access to Mental Health Care, requiring insurers to notify patients of their mental-health-coverage rights and the state complaint hotline, and requiring the state to track and report coverage complaints every year.
  • Secured $125,000 (LFIR #1465, 2025) to establish a free and charitable mental health clinic in Seminole County for uninsured, underinsured, and economically disadvantaged residents.
  • Paired state dollars with existing county-funded providers, including IMPOWER's counseling for homeless and aging-out foster youth, so the money reinforces local care instead of duplicating it.
